What is Managed Detection and Response?
Managed Detection and Response, or MDR, is a service where security analysts monitor your environment continuously, investigate alerts and act on them. It differs from antivirus, which only matches known malware signatures, and from EDR, which detects suspicious behaviour on a device but still relies on someone to respond. Aera MDR combines a managed SOC, SIEM, EDR and XDR, vulnerability management, penetration testing, cloud security posture management, DNS filtering and security awareness training.
What is the difference between MDR and a traditional MSP?
A traditional managed service provider keeps your IT working — support tickets, devices, email, backups. MDR is a security service: continuous threat monitoring and active response by security analysts. Many Sydney MSPs resell a third party's MDR alongside their IT support.
